La Cannonerie is ideally situated –

One hour from Bordeaux and La Rochelle,
20 minutes from Cognac
a short walk into our village for your morning croissant and baguette
or a 5 minute drive to the spa town of Jonzac
35 minutes to the pretty coastal villages
Nearest airports Bordeaux and La Rochelle – both just over an hour away.

The village of Reaux is within easy walking and cycling distance through the vines for your daily croissant or baguette. The pretty and popular spa town of Jonzac is just 5km away and contains all the services you would expect of a small town as well as a spectacular chateau with cafes & restaurants, boulangeries and a tree lined square, fantastic covered French market full of local seasonal produce and wonderful seafood from the coast. Also in Jonzac is Les Antilles, a brilliant tropical indoor water oasis complete with swimming pools and a water slide plus beauty rooms and sauna/steam room/jacuzzi area so perfect for adults and children alike!

There are plenty of historic towns to visit within about an hour: Saintes, Cognac, Angouleme, Royan, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, St Emilion and Blaye. Lots of beautiful scenery to enjoy including fields of sunflowers and of course the landscape of cognac and wine vineyards where you can stop off and enjoy a degustation or take a distillery tour (highly recommended). Outdoor activities include kayaking (at Jarnac its particularly beautiful), cycling (the cycle tracks in the pine forests at the beach are brilliant for this), and some lovely local walks (just ask and we will direct you to church in the next village that has some amazing medieval graffiti!) The sandy beaches of the Cote Sauvage, St Palais sur Mer and many other local beaches are all an excellent day trip – if you can drag yourself away from relaxing by the pool!

Pretty coastal villages at Talmont and Mortagne, dune backed beaches, oysters, seafood, wine, cognac and pineau are all waiting to be enjoyed. Cognac Blues Passion is a brilliant open air music event held annually around the first week of July. Acts have included Tom Jones, Sting, Hugh Laurie, Lenny Kravitz and Lily Allen. All year round there are always plenty of local brocantes and antique shops to pop into and while away an afternoon. For lunchtime or evening refreshments we can recommend some great local restaurants, a rooftop bar, our favourite cocktail place and even some Michelin starred restaurants for perhaps those celebrating a special occasion or just wanting to treat themselves whilst on holiday.
